Mennonite 7

The Mennonite 7 is a group of 1983 graduates (Patty Haberkorn, Jayme Lottinville, Cindy Malinowski, Velma Shetler, Lori Troyer, Ellen Wylie, and Linda Ziemer) who met as freshmen in Troyer Hall and bonded as a group that went through clinicals as a team throughout much of their degree work. The friendship created remained strong even after each left campus to begin their life-long work in nursing.

Through the years they have collectively worked in the areas of cardiac ICU, hospice, medical surgical, obstetrics, urology, developmental disability, enterprise risk management, and education. Even after graduating over 41 years ago, they continue to get together and reminisce about how each has remained true to the nursing profession and as a result, touched countless lives. The Mennonite 7 received the 2024 Mennonite Nurses Alumni Organization’s Spirit of Nursing Award.

Scott Schaefer ’17

During Scott's senior year, he seized the opportunity to do a ride-along with an air ambulance. The experience sparked his desire to become a flight nurse. He pursued that passion after working as an emergency room nurse and transitioned to the emergency department’s clinical educator before taking on a new role as a member of a medevac flight team.

Scott has credentials as a trauma nurse specialist, a trauma certified registered nurse, a certified emergency nurse, and a certified flight registered nurse. He is exemplary in his dedication to the nursing field and makes a difference in the lives of patients outside of the traditional hospital setting. In 2024, Scott received the Mennonite Nurses Alumni Organization’s Early Career Achievement Award.
